Structural

Pumice has been used as a construction material since the Roman times.

Today, world pumice production is almost 20 million tonne (USGS Minerals Yearbook, 2009), the majority of which is produced for use in lightweight concrete applications including prefabricated panels and concrete masonry building blocks.

Significant international research has been undertaken to establish the validity of pumice as a raw material in the production of lightweight structural concrete and lightweight concrete masonry. Research concludes that as a building product, pumice will perform in a variety of structural concrete applications.

Features

  • Low density/high porosity aggregate (typically 500-650kg/cubic metre dry)
  • Excellent compressive strength to weight ratio (up to 27MPa for 1750 kg/m3 concrete)
  • Quality-assured lightweight aggregate, produced to agreed specifications

Pacific Pumice® structural pumice is extracted from a high quality pumice resource. The material is then crushed and screened to provide to provide a calibrated and consistent product. Winstone Aggregates operates a number of International Accreditation New Zealand (IANZ) laboratories which test that the products consistently meet agreed specification.
